AI chip giant Nvidia will take a minority stake in French medical website Doctolib that plans to use the technology to improve health care, its chief executive Jensen Huang said Tuesday.
Doctolib is a private website that allows patients to book appointments with doctors, but has also begun to allow patients to store medical information to more easily share their records.
In August it launched a research program using artificial intelligence to study the data of its 50 million users to improve navigation of the healthcare system.
The amount of the planned investment was not disclosed, but Huang said at a press conference in Paris that Nvidia invested at least $8 billion in Europe last year.
Doctolib chief executive Stanislas Niox-Chateau told AFP that the funds will help it speed up hiring and development of its in-house AI models that will power personal assistants for both patients and doctors, as well as help with administrative tasks.
Niox-Chateau said it would use Nvidia chips to power AI models that it will be able to retain control over, as well as patient data, instead of using proprietary AI models like those offered by OpenAI or Anthropic.
Doctolib was valued at 3.6 billion euros ($4.0 billion) during its last funding round earlier this year.
