Rennes have signed Spain under-21 striker Eliezer Mayenda from Sunderland of the Premier League.
"Eliezer Mayenda, a promising striker who came through the ranks at Sochaux before gaining experience in English football, has joined Stade Rennais F.C. at the age of 21," the French Ligue 1 said in a press release on Sunday.
Specialist site Transfermarkt estimated Rennes paid 22 million euros ($25 million) for the 21-year-old.
Eliezer has "the ability to play out wide as well as in central midfield. He is a young player but has already played in several leagues and in different countries. We are aware of his potential," said Rennes sporting director Loic Desire.
Mayenda made 72 appearances for Sunderland, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists.
The English club said he "played a key role in Sunderland's 2024-25 promotion-winning campaign."
He scored in in their play-off semi-final and final. He then scored their first Premier League goal last season, in a opening-day victory over West Ham.
Sunderland said the 1.80m (5-foot-11) Mayenda was "affectionately known as the 'Big Man' by supporters."
