African players in Europe: Ndiaye gives Everton perfect send-off

Senegal midfielder Iliman Ndiaye scored both goals as Everton marked their final men's match at Goodison Park by beating Southampton 2-0 at the weekend before moving to a new stadium.

Text size:

The home of the Toffees since 1892, Goodison will play host to the Everton women's team from next season as the men move to a 52,000-capacity stadium.

Everton legends, including former England captain Wayne Rooney, saw Ndiaye raise his goal tally to 11 for the season in all competitions.

AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:

ENGLAND

ILIMAN NDIAYE (Everton)

The 25-year-old struck twice in the first half, taking just six minutes to curl a shot into the bottom corner before he doubled the lead shortly before the break after rounding Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

BRYAN MBEUMO (Brentford)

The Cameroon forward scored his 19th league goal of the season as the Bees lost 3-2 to London rivals Fulham. Shortly after levelling the tie at one-apiece, Mbeumo had the chance to give Brentford the lead but saw his spot-kick saved by Bernd Leno.

YOANE WISSA (Brentford)

The Democratic Republic of Congo international also endured a mixed match against Fulham, squandering a golden chance from a one-on-one when the match was still goalless. But he linked well with strike partner Mbeumo to create Brentford's opener and scored their second -- his 19th goal of the campaign -- when he prodded over the line from close range in the 43rd minute.

SPAIN

CHRISTANTUS UCHE (Getafe)

Nigeria midfielder Uche netted an important goal to ensure the Madrid minnows will survive in La Liga for another season. His fourth strike of the season proved the decider in a 2-1 victory at Mallorca. The tall 22-year-old swept a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box in the 65th minute.

GERMANY

SERHOU GUIRASSY (Borussia Dortmund)

Guirassy scored for his sixth game in a row, converting a third-minute penalty to put Borussia Dortmund on track in a 3-0 home win over Holstein Kiel. With Dortmund needing a win to secure Champions League football next season, Guirassy stepped up and coolly converted after Felix Nmecha was fouled. The goal was the 34th this season for the Guinea international in all competitions, continuing a late-season flurry in which he has scored nine goals in six games.

FRANCE

ABDOULAYE TOURE (Le Havre)

The Guinea midfielder kept his cool in remarkable fashion to chip in a penalty in the ninth minute of injury time to give Le Havre a 3-2 win at Strasbourg which allowed them to secure their survival right at the end of the Ligue 1 season. Toure, 31, had already scored another penalty earlier in the game and finished the season with 10 goals -- as many as he had scored in the previous six seasons combined.

TEREM MOFFI (Nice)

The Nigeria striker finished a difficult year on a high by coming off the bench to score for Nice in a 6-0 hammering of Brest which allowed them to finish fourth in Ligue 1 and secure a place in next season's Champions League. It was his only goal of a campaign in which he made just five brief substitute appearances after returning from an ACL injury suffered in pre-season training last July.
